Glycemic Index Test In Food Products

The glycemic index or glycaemic index is a number associated with the carbohydrates in a particular type of food that indicates the effect of these carbohydrates on a person's blood glucose level. In recent years, modern people's nutrient intakes in everyday life are much higher than levels typically required. Especially, the processed food diet containing excessive sugars are being recognized as increasingly serious social problems

Carbohydrate is an essential for human health life, but not all forms of carbohydrate foods are equal or good for our health. The Glycemic Index (GI) is a ranking of carbohydrate in foods according to the way to affect our blood glucose levels.

The most of rich content of food products have carbohydrates base. ITC Labs lab working in area of GI test to categorized the quality of food products base on GI index . The carbohydrate base food products can be categorized into three index based on their GI values

It is categorized in to three values

  • The GI value of food product is less to 55 (Low GI)
  • The GI value of food product is 56 – 69 (Intermediate or moderate GI)
  • The GI value of food product is above 70 (High GI)

The low GI food products have more slowly digested, absorbed and metabolised and cause a lower and slower rise in blood glucose and, therefore usually good for the diabetic peoples . ITC Labs lab offering the GI test in following food products such Sugar, Cane juices, rice, bakery, ice-creams etc.
